The Mamba Cup Tournament Series
Developed by Kobe Bryant
The Black Mamba himself, Kobe Bryant, has long wanted to develop a league concept for high level youth basketball teams in Grades 2-8. Thus, the Mamba Cup Tournament Series has been designed to capture the benefits of league play while still honoring the tournament culture established by those who have built youth basketball to where it is today.
The introductory season of the Mamba Cup will feature a series of eleven tournaments from September through March culminating in the Championship Tournament on the weekend of March 21-22. To qualify for the Championship Tournament, teams need to participate in 4 or more of the 11 Series Tournaments. We will use the records from the Series Tournaments to produce seedings for the Championship Tournament.
Of course, Coach Bryant’s very own Girls 8th Grade Mamba Club Team will be a participant in the Mamba Cup.
Tournament Series Partners
Open Gym Premier/Grassroots 365 and Mamba Sports Events will host the tournament events at premier venues in the Greater Los Angeles area including Mamba Sports Academy, American Sports Center and Ladera Sports Center.
Mamba Cup Registry
While teams will register and pay for the individual Mamba Cup Series Tournaments as they normally would for any tournament, we encourage all teams to register on the Mamba Cup Registry which is FREE. Those teams on the registry will receive exclusive Series updates and be automatically entered in special giveaways. Most importantly, we will try to balance the schedule of those teams registered so that you will get games amongst all teams in your division. By doing so, our seedings will be more meaningful and accurate.
Mamba Cup For All
Mamba Cup will have divisions for all skill levels (Open, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper) and the Championship Tournament will include those divisions. Simply select your preferred division when you register for Mamba Cup and we’ll schedule and track your results in that division.
Mamba Cup Championship Tournament
The tournament will be held March 21-22 at Ladera Sports Center, Ladera Ranch, CA. All teams who have registered on the Mamba Cup Registry (free Registry registration) and played in 4 or more Mamba Cup Tournaments will be invited to participate. The Series Organizers reserve the right to add a limited number of at-large teams.
Teams will compete in the division (Open, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper) which they have chosen in the Mamba Cup Registry. Seedings within the division will be primarily based on the winning percentage for each team in Mamba Cup games. The Series Organizers may create sub-divisions within a particular division if the number of teams in that division warrants it.
There will be a limited number of slots in the Championship Tournament. We recommend that you register for this tournament well in advance to reserve your slot. We will verify that you have already registered for at least 4 of the Series Tournaments before accepting your registration to the Championship Tournament. We may expand the Championship Tournament to additional venues if required by demand.
